Degreased pipes and fittings

Degreased pipes and fittings for businesses with high demands. Since 1989, Amon AB has been one of Sweden's leading suppliers of degreased pipes and fittings for businesses with high demands on cleanliness. Our cleaned pipes are found in the food industry, engineering industry, laboratories, chemical industry, nuclear power plants and not least in central medical gas installations in hospitals. A large part of our production is exported to our neighboring countries in the Nordics and Baltic states.

Our methods

We wash copper pipes, stainless steel pipes, end feed capillary fittings as well as valves, threaded parts and other types of pipe fittings that can be part of a complete pipeline distribution system. The pipes are degreased using an environmentally friendly degreasing method and then rinsed inside and out with water under high pressure. The pipes are also rinsed with ultrapure water and blown clean and dry with air from an oil free compressor as well as with dry gas (nitrogen) from a cylinder.

For certain pipe qualities, we use pneumatically driven cleaning plugs for greater effect. The capillary and stainless-steel fittings are degreased in an ultrasonic cleaner, rinsed with deionized water and then with 99.7% ethanol and then also dried with high pressure air and dry gas from a cylinder.

Full traceability is guaranteed through LPDS

LPDS (Logical Process Documentation System) is a system we have developed to identify material, item name, degreasing date, order number, item number, standard, dimension and a unique certificate number. It is also the number of our invoice to the customer! In short… full traceability!

Identification by QR code

Each part of each shipment of medical gas pipes and fittings is provided with a unique QR code that refers to the LPDS certificate. This makes it possible to identify each individual part and facilitate installation and documentation directly in a mobile phone. Customers can also document service, maintenance, and changes in their facilities directly on the internet.

Delivery

Pipes are wrapped in plastic and protected with pipe caps. In most cases, pipes are delivered in a wooden box. For small deliveries, the plastic-wrapped pipes are placed on a plank, fitted with shock protection at both ends.

Instructions on how the material should be handled at the workplace are included with all deliveries. The capillary and stainless-steel fittings are sealed in a labeled plastic bag. Deliveries to the work site always includes extra pipe caps as well as a copy of the washing and standard adherence certificate as well as material specification. Original certificates are always sent to the customer.

All SAMedical® products meet the requirements according to SIS HB 370: Safety standard for medical gas installations (Säkerhetsnorm för medicinska gasanläggningar). SIS HB 370 was developed under the guidance of SIS (Swedish Institute for Standards) and is a safety standard in the form of a handbook aimed at medical gas facilities in the Nordic region. The handbook is designed to ensure the highest possible level of safety for the handling, storage, and distribution of medical gases in healthcare facilities. By establishing guidelines and requirements for the design, installation and maintenance of these facilities, SIS HB 370 aims to minimize the risks of accidents, leaks or other dangerous situations that can negatively affect both patients and healthcare staff. By complying with this standard, medical gas facilities can achieve an internationally accepted as pertaining to high standards of safety and quality, which is of the utmost importance in the healthcare sector. This "Safety Standard" has been continuously updated and in use for well over 40 years in primarily Sweden and Norway.

Our pipe materials

Here youu can read more about the different materials we work with.

SAMedical® Copper Tubes

Superior durability for sensitive environments

Copper pipes can be used for most things, from steam lines to refrigeration lines and for medical gases. The material's natural hardness allows copper pipes to be installed both vertically and horizontally without risking deformation. Plumbing with copper pipes is durable.

SAMedical® Copper Tubes

Because copper pipes are neutral against sparking, copper is the natural choice for fuel and gas lines. Copper pipes are used in healthcare facilities to transport medical i.e., pharmaceutical grade gases. To ensure that medical gases do not become contaminated, an extremely clean inner surface is required. Our copper tubes, SAMedical® Copper Tubes, correspond to the purity requirements found in SIS HB 370 (Sweden and Norway) and to EN 13348 (in the rest of Europe).

SAMedical® Copper Tubes save time and money

Our own copper tubes – SAMedical® Copper Tubes – have been developed in collaboration with Finnish Cupori Oy. The manufacturing method represents a breakthrough in the production of base material for bending-friendly medical copper tubes.

SAMedical® Copper Tubes provide significantly reduced installation times with fast cold bending, instead of time-consuming cutting and joining with End-feed capillary elbows with the need for brazing and flowing shielding gas. A considerable saving is made on material purchases of end-feed capillary elbows for dimensions up to and including 35 mm. Add to that the time gain in bending as opposed to brazing.

Joining of copper pipes in medical gas installations and other high purity applications requires brazing with silver phosphorous copper solder with nitrogen shielding gas inside the pipeline. Shielding gas soldering can only be carried out, if the facility is to be approved, by people with the required and certified training.

SS-EN 13348:2016 - Copper and copper alloys - Seamless, round copper tubes for medical gas line installations or vacuum. - This European Standard specifies requirements, sampling, test methods and delivery conditions for copper pipes. It is applicable to seamless round copper tubes with an outer diameter from 6 mm up to and including 219 mm for pipeline systems under vacuum or for the distribution of pharmaceutical grade medical gases intended for use at working pressures up to 2000 kPa, (200 Bar) and air to drive surgical tools.

Copper is a precious metal with an impressive property - its unlimited recyclability. This unique property makes copper a sustainable and environmentally friendly resource. Through melting and reshaping, copper can be recycled over and over without losing its quality or performance. This reduces the need to extract new copper ore and thus reduces the negative environmental effects of mining.

The unlimited recyclability of copper reduces the waste and energy consumption associated with the production of new copper products. In addition, the recycling of copper contributes to reducing emissions of greenhouse gases and minimizes the burden on natural resources. By promoting the recycling and use of recycled copper, we can create a more sustainable and circular economy, where we take advantage of copper's amazing properties without depleting the planet's resources.

Standard for SAMedical® Copper Tubes and end-feed capillary fittings

SAMedical® Copper tubes are made of copper according to standard SS-EN 13348 and are hard machined (R290) in dimensions up to 108 mm. SAMedical® end-feed capillary fittings are manufactured according to the standard EN 1254.

Flexible dimensions and delivery

SAMedical® Copper Tubes are available in dimensions from 8 mm to 108 mm and in 5-meter lengths. To facilitate delivery and transport economy, we can also deliver in 2.5-meter lengths.

Technical specification and handling of SAMedical® Copper Tubes and End-feed capillary fittings

Here we have collected everything you need to know about SAMedical® tubes and fittings and how to handle them in the best way possible.

SAMedical® Copper tubes are made of copper according to standard SS-EN 13348 and are hard machined (R290) in dimensions up to 108 mm, as well as according to standard SS-EN 1254-1 for capillary tube parts.

SAMedical® Copper tubes meet the purity requirements according to SIS HB 370, i.e., the remaining amount of hydrocarbon compounds (oil residues) does not exceed 2.5 mg/m² on internal surfaces. The same degree of purity is met for SAMedical® End-feed capillary fittings.

SAMedical® Copper Tubes and fittings are refined under regulations established according to a quality management system that complies with SS-EN ISO 13485:2016 Medical devices - Management system for quality - Requirements for regulatory purposes.

The classification is in accordance with the Sweden’s Medical Products Agency's printout on risk classification. The product classification is Ila, which means validation by a third party accredited "Notified Body". This is the same requirement that is set according to MDD and MDR.

Pipes for medical gas installations must be stored separately from other pipes, so that confusion with ordinary water and sanitary pipes and non-bendable medical copper pipes cannot occur. SAMedical® Copper Tubes must be stored dry, dust-free, and frost-free under cover. SAMedical® Copper Tubes must be kept protectively capped until they are to be assembled.

According to the handling instructions, SAMedical® Copper Tubes must always be resealed with the supplied tube caps after cutting. During installation, SAMedical® Copper Tubes must always be blown clean of loose particles using breathing air. Chip-forming tools must not be used when cutting.

Amon AB, in collaboration with Finnish Cupori Oy, has developed a manufacturing process which means that SAMedical® Copper Tubes are exceptionally bendable even in a cold state.

With hand tools, dimensions up to 22 mm can be cold bent. With an electric bending tool, dimensions up to 35 mm can be cold bent. However, all bending, hot or cold, causes deformation of the goods, for example that the wall thickness of the outer bending radius decreases. Tests have shown that the pipe's wall thickness is reduced by between 5% and 15%. However, as these pipes, with a hardness of R290, can be cold bent, the pressure rating is maintained at a high level. With correctly performed bending and with a bending radius that does not exceed 4 times the diameter of the tube, all dimensions up to and including 35 mm pass the thickness classification requirements according to PED (Pressure Equipment Directive) for medical gas installations even after bending.

Soldering must be done using an approved method for shielded gas soldering by a fitter with a soldering license for joining according to EN ISO 13585:2012 Brazing - Solder testing. Flushing of SAMedical® Copper Tubes with protective gas (nitrogen) must take place to prevent oxides from forming in the tubes. After soldering, the pipes must be purged with the intended medical gas to remove any remaining shielding gas (nitrogen).

When soldering copper to copper, silver phosphor copper solder with 5% silver without flux is used. Soldering copper to brass, bronze or redware requires a flux and higher silver content (55%) on the solder. Cadmium must not occur when soldering medical gas installations. Fluxes must not be organic.
